Rally falls short in men's basketball loss
SHERMAN, Texas – A late comeback attempt fell short as the LeTourneau University
men’s basketball team dropped the season opener, 72-63, Tuesday night to Austin College at Hughey
Gym.
Despite a slow start, Dale Vanwright paced the YellowJackets with 14 points on 2-of-13
shooting. Will Smith added 13 points and Marcel Louimeus had 10 as LeTourneau was 22-of-52 (42
percent) shooting and 15-of-23 (65 percent) from the foul line.
After a sluggish opening start for both teams, LeTourneau (0-1) grabbed an 8-6 advantage after
a Louimeus putback layup with 15:33 remaining in the opening half. But a 3-pointer by Josh Saunders
gave the Kangaroos (2-0) a 9-8 lead with 15:21 left in the half.
The YellowJackets trailed, 12-8, with 12:18 remaining in the first half, but climbed back into
the game by using a 12-1 run, powered by Louimeus, who scored six points during the stretch, to
give LeTourneau an 18-13 advantage with 7:30 remaining.
