Women’s basketball faces uphill climb
RICHARDSON, Texas – The LeTourneau University women’s basketball team faces a very
tough climb this upcoming 2009-10 season as the YellowJackets were selected Wednesday to place
sixth in the American Southwest Conference East Division Preseason Poll.
LeTourneau garnered 35 points to place sixth. UT-Dallas edged Mississippi College for the top
spot. The Comets had 12 first-place votes for 132 points. The Lady Choctaws were second with 131
points and seven first-place votes. Louisiana College, which had two first-place votes, was third
with 93 points, followed by UT-Tyler (89) and East Texas Baptist (75). The University of Ozarks
rounded out the division with 33 points.
Tillisha Givens of Louisiana College was named by the American Southwest Conference head
coaches, sports information directors and media members as the East Division Preseason Player of
the Year. Hardin-Simmons’ Lindsey Newcombe was selected from the West Division.
